Full circle:Meeting - a chance, being a friend - a choice, falling in love-beyond control (By Arshirandomfan)

Present day

He was unable to sleep and scared out of his mind. He was still in love with her and the truth terrified him. He clutched the tall glass in his hands, breaking it eventually with the force... He had done a huge mistake and he did not know how to tell her. "She could never know..." He muttered and cursed himself for letting things get out of hand all over again.

She woke up hearing the shattering noise and found herself on the empty bed. Her body sore and her mind confused; she felt like crying without him next to her. Tears spilled slowly down her cheeks. She felt like everything had happened and yet nothing had happened. It was happiness and sadness that filled inside her.

She had not known what it would be like for her the first time. With her he had been intense; almost unbearably intense...She had felt his intensity despite the unhurried and measured moves he had made on her. She got up and removed the sheets he had used to cover her and she wore his shirt again. He had pulled it off her with force and now the front had too many gaps, increasing her discomfort. She wrapped it around and crossed her hands in front and tried getting down from the bed. She winced slightly from the pain she felt in her body; she found his robe and wrapped herself in it and walked ahead to find him.

So much had happened and she wondered if he had started to mean something more to her... She was afraid of the way he had reacted to her and it confused her much more when he had stopped abruptly... She could not deny that his slightest touch had made her want him and he had made it quite sure that she felt at ease with him... but then she had instinctively shied away from his intimate advances and he had immediately stopped becoming suspicious. She could not have told him...she would never have told him not knowing how he would have reacted. But now she knew he had figured it out.

She wondered if her truth would now cost her the feelings that had started to blossom in her heart...She was slowly getting to know him as a different man, and despite all the differences she had started to feel for him...

He looked at her and a slow, sad smile curved his lips. She approached him slower than usual, feeling terribly shy at the way things had ended the night before. She looked at him and her foolish mind wanted to believe that he will come any moment and wrap his arms around her and whisper something lovely in her ears... instead he was busy taking out the coffee dispenser... and looked at her with indifference and coldness.

"I think" he said in his deep undertone and paused... she felt her heart rammed against her chest... "The storm is over ..." he said and looked away from her and then added "I could drop you..."

He had stopped himself but she was sure she saw it in his eyes... she was sure he had meant to say "It was a mistake..." but he had said something else. She felt her heart sinking fast. She snapped her head up fast enough to catch him unaware and met his gaze. He looked away quickly but she thought she saw guilt there. She squeezed her tiny palms into fists so that her tears won't burst out from her eyes... and found herself nodding. "Yes... of course Mr Raizada." She managed to utter before turning to go out...

"I have put your dry clothes..." she heard him say something like that but her ears buzzed... She cried as she slowly moved away from him. There was something between them but it was nothing that she could hold on to... what had come over her to think that things would have changed. She heard something and quickly grabbed her clothes and moved inside the bathroom and shut herself. She turned the water on to drown her shallowness of breath, she had to calm down or she knew her hiccups will come back and he would know she had been upset. She counted backwards from twenty...

She heard him knock softly...

"Are you done?" he asked

"Yes, just a few more minutes..." She took deep breath and cleaned up, fixed her clothes and hair and she came out. She avoided looking at him. She pulled her strapped beaded sandals with a bit too much force and let her body once again be covered under the ill-fitting loose navy dress and a few layered necklaces that hung around. She pulled her tresses into a messy side pony for the afternoon. She sure looked worn out.

He looked at her "You alright?" he asked her as he gathered his stuff.

"Yes...of course." she lied and swallowed.

He held the door for her and tried again to look at her but it was evident she was now avoiding him. He did not say anything more, not knowing where to begin. Sooner or later she would as hi why and he had no explanation for what he had done. On top of that he had been stupid enough to believe her and get involved with her.

"How did it come to all this?" he thought and cursed under his breath. He was better off the way he had lived and until she had messed up everything. He felt agitated watching her sitting passively next to him; she was never like that... "Look why don't you go home and I will see you later." He said to her...

"No... I can work... I am fine... really... I have so much to do..." she said and added without thinking. "We did not finish discu..." she shut her mouth immediately. He pressed at accelerator...and looking ahead said impatiently "Just go home." She did not dare to say anything anymore. "How could she be so stupid to bring it up?" she bit her lip hard admonishing herself.

Part 2

Present day

She looked away biting her lip after her faux pas... they had been with each other the night before... It had all gone horribly wrong... it came back to her...

He looking at her face and she had stared back at him with her innocent eyes staring letting escape a soft whimper from her mouth... and he had stopped abruptly seeing her tears ... "God ... Khushi... Are you...? He looked at her suspiciously and paused..."Have you been lying...Khushi?" ...

She knew he had started to doubt already....

She whispered ... "No..."

"Damn it..." he said... "I don't understand you...at all." he paused ... searching her face for some hint..."Is that all you have to tell me Khushi...? Are you here trying my patience ..." he swallowed... "Every time...Khushi...and there is nothing more for me than just the...No..."

He got up angry ... ran his fingers through his hair in frustration... closing his eyes...clenching his fist. He tried to calm down breathing deep... walked to get sheets... When he came back and he covered her... "Just sleep okay... I am sorry...I did n't mean to be angry at you..." he kissed her forehead and took a look at her face...Tears glistened against her cheek. He turned his unwilling mind and body to go back to the living room couch... She stopped him holding on to his hand... he looked back at her... sat down beside her and stroked her hair in silence... lost deep in thought... she drifted off to sleep as tiredness filled her body.

He was unable to sleep so he sat there looking at her face... as he sat there he felt his heart ache and the sensation came back... he was still in love with her... the one thing he had avoided thinking about for so long...

"Damn..." he cursed at himself...

In their passion they both forgot the promise they had made to themselves.

Part 3

Six months ago...

"You do exactly what I tell you to do... and right now just stop freaking me out with your tears." he breathed

"Who asked you to do this if you were not ready..." he screamed at her enraged.

"I am telling you the truth... I don't know anything about this..." she pleaded.

"Don't blame me for your stupidity...Why the hell would you not read it?" he threw back at her. "Don't you dare lie to me...You signed the damn contract ...I don't care if you don't know anything about this...I paid exactly what you asked for and now you finish this..." he gritted his teeth and threatened her...

She looked at him terrified and cried harder... soon her cries gave into hiccups and her face reddened... in the stress...

"You are mean and hic ...rude...hic... her tears poured out... and I ...I...hic... hate...hic you..." she cried out with tremendous effort as her lips trembled in fear...

He was glaring at her... furious... but slowly he had started to see the colour change in her... he thought she looked adorable and felt like kissing her....her big eyes were dilated and glistening lips swollen and trembling from anger... her body was small swimming in the voluminous dress she wore... her hair untidy...

She saw his eyes measuring her up and instantly she stifled her sobs and stood one toe over the other...tensed up. He came up to her face and asked nonchalantly, "Do you have anything other than the ridiculously oversized sack you are wearing...?"

"Sack?" she looked at him, her mouth open... "This is what I wear everyday..." she retorted angrily ...

"I see... I am sure men fall for you when they see you in this ..." he gestured making a box in the air and smirked..

"Yes... many do...Why do you care...?" she shouted back.

"It takes a bit more than that for me... that's why... Look, I don't have time to baby sit you...I will send you something... and you be ready for eight." he said and turned around... taking his phone out...

"I am not going to do this..." she said quietly behind his back

He heard her ..." Well, be my guest, if you want me to come and dress you up... say so, I'd enjoy that ...provided you are up for it ... he smirked at her... she backed up immediately. Pulling her loose shabby coat around her... He pressed his lips together to stop laughing seeing her terrified face.

Once out of the room, he immediately called the contact number he had received and had not bothered to check the source...

"This number is out of service..." he heard the monotone...

He was furious and called his office... "When you wire the money to Shyam Manohar Jha, trace it... I want all the details Aman immediately." He said to Aman Malhotra.

"Sir, I can look into it... just tell me what to do"...said Aman wondering why he was taking a personal interest in a simple money transfer... He did it for him on a daily basis.

"No... just send it to me." He said curtly and cut the phone.

He then browsed through his contacts... "What was she wearing?" he muttered to himself... and yet he remembered every details of the absurd looking outfit... she was definitely hiding herself and just by looking at her he had felt there was so much more to her... he found his contact and called immediately...

"No just send the gold hawk's floral eyelet dress in white and yes, make sure you throw the seed earring with the bracelet and shoes..."

"This was going to much harder." he thought... Now he was stuck with a childishly stubborn and stuck up woman..." he creased his brows together wondering how old was she... He now flipped through the details he had not bothered to see before to check her age... Khushi Kumari Gupta, 24 it said... He sighed... at least he was not dealing with a juvenile even though it had felt like it.

He rushed to change, he was already running late.

A few hours ago ...

He had gone into the room to see if things were all right and found her scramble at the window trying to get out... She was trying to get out without realizing how high the building was... He had rushed inside and caught her tiny body just in time from getting thrown off by the wind. He flung her into the bed...shutting the window...

"What, you ******* want to kill yourself do it another day and at some goddamn place where I am not around to see it ..." his hands had gripped her tight and shook her all over and pushing her into the bed as she had tried to run away...

"Who are you and why have you locked me here?" she asked crying

"What...? I have not locked you up... you came here willingly... to do the job..." he shouted at her... "Why are you doing this drama...?"

"If you want me to work for you ... then why didn't you interview me... I was waiting here for hours" she asked bewildered...

"Interview you...? For what? I just need a pretty face for tonight... I don't have the time to interview... Are you crazy?" he said angrily...

"One night... what do you mean?" she asked as her heart beat increased...

"Night means tonight...Are you that dumb?" he asked her looking genuinely shocked.

"But what about the job... you are into buildings, real estate...aren't you?" she cried...

"Yes... but this is your ****** job... you do this for me ... you understand?" he said loosing all his patience...

"I did not sign up for this..." she protested... "I want to talk to the person who hired me.. Not you ....some roughish underhand dealer..." she shouted at him

He looked at her... "You are seriously crazy, just as your luck would have it... I am fine gentleman you are asking for..." he said smirking.

She stared at him with her mouth open... shocked and unable to say anything...

What are you going to do with me?" she asked looking at him with her wild and terrified eyes...

"Everything that a man can do in one night...and then we will see" he muttered between his teeth fuming in frustration looking at her teary eyed oval face...

"No..." she gasped... and tried to run away...he caught her and backed her up against the wall.... "I think I have made myself clear... You do exactly what I tell you to do ... You hear me? He said as his eyes pierced into hers with coldness...

She whimpered against the pressure she felt as his fingers dug into her skin... hearing her ... he backed away looking at the fresh gush of tears...

"You do exactly what I tell you to do... and right now just stop freaking me out with your tears. "Who asked you to sign up for this if you were not ready... he screamed at her enraged.

"I am telling you the truth... I don't know anything about this..." she pleaded.

"Don't blame me for your stupidity..." he jeered back at her. "Why would you not read the terms of agreement...Has no one taught you that...?" he asked

"I read it... it was not there... I swear..." she countered

"Don't you dare lie to me...You signed the damn contract... and now that you know the money has been transferred you think you can back out?"

"I don't have your money..." she said between her tears...

"Oh yes...I believe you are doing this for charity..." he snarled. "I want you ready, presentable for dinner, tonight and don't you dare open your mouth...I swear if you do I will make sure you suffer throughout the night... and make it your worse ever..." he said piercing her with his eyes ...

A cold shiver ran down her spine... she panicked...

She looked at him with her wild terrified eyes and cried harder... soon her cries gave into hiccups and her face reddened... She was upset and in tremendous stress...

Part 4

She had been in the city for over a month without a job and her money was running out...she had been frustrated and disappointed giving interviews... No one wanted her because of her lack of experience and with no remarkable achievements in college and very moderately worded recommendations she barely stood a chance. She tried hard to convince that she had to work and pay for her college ... but everyone thought she was making excuses...

It was just another day full of disappointments when she had received a call...

"Khushiji" he asked.

"Yes.."she said.

"I am Shyam Manohar Jha from Lucknow... I know your family... I got your number from them." He said.

"Oh... from Lucknow..." she felt a bit happy to know someone from near her roots was speaking to her... she thought of home...

"Your Amma told me, you are here." He said.

"Yes... it has been a month." She said.

"Well, how is your job hunt going..." he asked her his voice concerned.

"It has been difficult but I am trying." She said.

"Well, I may just have the thing for you and it is such a coincidence that you are here in this city... I called your home to find out ... if ..." he did not finish and said... "Well, long story short you must know that AR Buildings, Design and Construction... they are looking for someone assist the MD..." he said.

"Oh... no...no... that is way senior position..." she said... Knowing well that in a company like that probably they would want years and years of experience to be a assistant to MD..

"Oh... Khushiji...Look I have a contact there ... May be it will work out or may be not, what is the harm in trying?" he said.

She saw the logic of it and agreed. "Okay."

"Oh btw, send me your bio and a photograph... something nice and cheery."

"Photograph? Who wants it?" she said.

"The contact person...Khushiji...if you are going to represent such a big company... they may have some criteria..." said Shyam Manohar Jha.

"I am not sure what has my face got to do as long as I can get things done... but I guess you are right... I will send you what I have in an hour..."

"No ...no... Do it now...the timeline is over today..."

"But...?" she protested. She had no photographs

"Just do it... I am waiting. I am sure this will work out for you..." said Shyam Manohar Jha.

She reluctantly went to an internet cafe tired out... she found just one photo of her with her Jiji...she cropped it and attached it with her CV and sent. Within the next morning she received a call to be at for a meeting Oberoi.

She was stunned... why would they want to meet her... She looked up the company profile... as she looked through the website she figured it was one of the fastest growing company... hit badly by the recession because of the scrapped of projects overseas, it still had recovered well for the losses it had made two years ago... She went through the management profile... There was actually very little information available on the team. She looked up information for the Managing Director Arnav Singh Raizada; his name appeared but all her search ended up in a loop, she had never seen anyone with such low profile at his level... but he had distinctly made it clear that you had to really know him to say you know him...there was nothing that gave any cues to her... she sighed... Now that she had no idea, it would be really very hard. Sometimes it helped to know company profile, at least the background of people who had the top positions... you could tune the responses in a way to get them interested in the responses... usually she did manage to scrape through the first few shortlists with her research. When she reached the mains she got turned down because of her lack of experience.

She reached the Oberoi that evening and gaped at the grand interiors... It was beautiful but a hundred ideas ran through her head as she thought of how she could make it better.

"Khushiji..." said Shyam Manohar Jha.

"Namaste..." she said.

"Let us go there is a waiting room..." he quickly looks around and takes her to the designated room.

"What kind of interview is this...there is no one else here." Said Khushi

"Oh...ho... you think too much... I am helping you... after all I know your family..." said Shyam. "Now sign these papers..."

"Sign them...? But I don't have a job yet..." she said going through the papers ...

"They are all non-disclosure documents, when you work for places like this... that's the first thing you have to sign...

She read through them... they were really non-disclosure agreements. She could not reveal anything as long as she was bound by the contract with the company. She wondered what was there to hide... but then big companies had bigger issues of capital, investment, knowledge base...it made sense that they would have strict paper work for privacy and data protection. She signed them...

"I will be back....and I will send you some tea... you can wait here." said Shyam and he left...

The tea came and she wondered how many other rooms were booked and how many others were waiting like her... she did not like this segregation... there was no way to find out her competition. She sipped the tea and waited... after sometime she felt light headed and sleepy...

Shyam had come back with another set of papers... "Khushi ... you are so lucky...I think they will hire you... all the others have so far been rejected." He said

Khushi tried to concentrate on each word Shyam was saying... "Hired?" ... she could not focus... He handed over the papers to her and she started reading them.... 'To assist the Managing Director ... but the words were all jumbled up... and then the terms and conditions in fine print but patiently she read them... they sounded reasonable... and with that kind of salary she could save so much...

"Are you satisfied Khushiji?" asked Shyam. "You don't trust me, do you?"

She felt embarrassed ... "No ...no... I am sorry just that I wanted to see what kind of position I am being offered ..." she felt her stomach churn... "Please excuse me..." she ran to the bathroom... she felt like throwing up but nothing came out... she washed her face and felt slightly better...

"Are you okay?" asked Shyam.

"Yes.. may be I am just nervous... it happens..." she said as the dizziness set in again.

"Okay, then why don't you sign these and I will drop them off..." he said...

"But what about the interview ... and there is an extra page here with fine writing ..." she asked finding it confusing that she was being hired without any question...

"Oh don't worry about it, I read it, it is nothing just some policies..." Shyam looked at her... She felt embarrassed that she had not trusted him earlier and papers had turned out to be fine... she signed it along with the others and gave it to him.

"Someone will come later to collect you... in fact I am sure they will have tasks lined up... I should be going... good luck" Shyam evaded answering any further...

She nodded feeling sleepy. As soon as she dropped her head into the soft couch... she dozed off.

Shyam disconnected the phone, locked the room and left.

She did not wake up until hours later... the sun was down and she was still in the room... she had to go back ... it was the last day to pay the rent amount and she would be thrown out in the evening if she did not pay them...

She tried unlocking the door... it was locked...

She looked for the phone to call house keeping or registration... the phone line was malfunctioning... the own mobile had run out of battery...

She looked around for another hour...on ways to get out...

She had the one window... only if she could climb out and ask the next room to help her out... She was climbing out of it when a pair of strong hands crept up and pulled her back inside...throwing her into the bed...

The man was towering over her with piercing brown eyes enraged....

"What the...! You ******* want to kill yourself do it another day and at some goddamn where I am not around to see it ..." his hands gripped her tight and shook her all over and pushing her back into the bed as she tried to run away...

Part 5

He was rushing to change for the dinner … The way she behaved made him think through now… He had for the first time not thought through this. He had been desperate… He remembered her face…. He breathed out, he had stepped into that room in cold fury seeing her act like a ten year old and now it did not feel right. He wondered whether he should reconsider…

It was not the ethical or moral question that bothered him… the question for him was about the money he had already transferred paid. He wanted to know if the girl was telling the truth but then there was no proof of that until he traced the contact. The likelihood that the girl was in league with that crook also crossed his mind and stayed there… he pondered over it while he dressed… and finally decided to go ahead with it. What did he have to loose? The money would help him to trace the man and the night’s dinner would be flashed on every news channel… reaching far and wide…serving hid purpose… he would have a conspicuous date which would eliminate the next incursion of mindless pursuit by a bunch of women he had no interest in.

He collected his keys… took a last look at himself…and walked out locking the door behind.

He knocked… at her door and one of the stylists from the hotel answered apologetic. “Mr Raizada, would you mind waiting five more minutes… she has not been very cooperative… it took us more time… we are extremely sorry…”

“You have your 5 minutes, to get to work done.” He said gruffly and turned to get updates from one of his sites… “Did you get the clearance for it? How many floors are they going to allow…that’s not enough… just get someone on it….” He had barely finished his sentence when the door and saw her reflection on the wall mirror…he forgot what he was talking about and excused himself…“Will call you back.”

The dazzling white mini dress with sequins, fringe and gem appliqués, sat perfectly on her body flaunting her toned physique. The look was totally Vegas showgirl-esque with the stylists giving her voluminous waves and smoky eyes to complement the show-stopping dress … He had expected a much toned down chignon … but what they had done worked on her… She looked sassy and unbelievably chic and he actually admired the way they had completed the look…. He turned around and did not feel like taking his eyes off her… Seeing him stare she became uncomfortable and started to clutch at the ends of her dress and pull it down…

He walked up to her… “If you keep doing that, it just going to ruin every thing… He held her lightly around the waist and brought her a step closer… “I knew you could do better… but this is way out of my expectations…” he said and pecked at her cheek… She froze…and her cheeks turning red…

He looked at her saw her freaked out face… then he immediately tried to put her at ease… “So, how did that happen... Did you try to get out again?” he asked as he gently touched the bruise at the back of her elbow...

“Just twice… then after that the hotel staff jammed the window and then the security stayed at the door..." she said casually and then saw his eyes on her again..."Could you stop staring at me...?" She said...

"Why?" he asked.

"Because you are making me uncomfortable..." she said as she pulled again at the sides of her dress...

He noticed it... "If you did n't do that then probably it would be easier for me to look elsewhere..." he said hiding his immediate amusement to see her stop immediately. Now that he had her straightened up he held her by her waist... "Okay, take a deep breath... Don't say anything.. And try to get along and most importantly act like..."

"Stop preaching me…" she said and moved matching her steps with him... He smirked knowing well that in a few minutes all her confidence will be flushed out...

As the lights flashed and questions followed... He felt her weight on him...as she froze.. He said in her ears "Keep your head down and you will be fine... " and then he pulled her closer and walked past easily dodging the cameras and microphones.

"What is this?" she asked looking at the elegantly dressed men and women...

"An auction ... Fundraiser....followed by dinner." he said...

She blinked at the lights flashed endlessly...and held on to him... How on earth did they live like this? She thought... The crowd threw questions... She watched him. He ignored and went past them in a routine... Just occasionally acknowledging a few of the bigger media houses... They did not question him, seemed like they had some understanding... But the tabloid papers were the ones aggressively throwing questions... Or making their own assumptions. He still ignored them....

Once inside, she relaxed and he let go off her... "You alright?" he asked her.

"Yes... But these people...?" she asked.

"Like everyone looking for something they can sell…” he said.

“But they did not get any answers… What are they going to sell?” she asked looking at him as if it was his fault he did not answer their questions…

“Really… you are that naive or just pretending?” He asked looking into her eyes..

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“Let it be…” he said softly…

“No...” she objected

His cold look came back… “This is my thing you understand… don’t try and seize this thinking that this is good for your free publicity…”

“Mr Raizada…its best if you did not think at all.. s&slh;he jerked her hand and broke off from his hold, disappearing into the crowd.

Part 5

His cold look came back... "This is my thing... don't try and seize this for free publicity..."

"Mr Raizada...its best if you did not think at all...She jerked her hand and broke off from his hold, disappearing into the crowd. He stared at her figure moving away and disappearing...

He was looking to go ahead and find her but the auctioneer came around...

"Mr Raizada, thank you for donating the piece. It is an exquisite necklace... we are looking to start the bidding at a hundred...What do you think?" said the auctioneer.

"I am sure you know what you are doing... as long as the bid is higher and money is raised for the benefit..." said ASR with his eyes over the crowd...

He saw her... balancing against the pillar, surrounded by some interested audince...He felt his anger rising through his veins seeing her talking animatedly to them... "If you will excuse me..." he said and made his way...

She was talking unaware barely realizing that the surrounding men were slowly moving away... She went on.. "What would you think of such a man...but...arrogant, rude ...and ...and..." She got lost looking at her last fellow listener give a half smile and move away...

"And detestable ..." he finished for her from behind her ears... She jumped out of her skin hearing his voice... and in the rush bumped against him as she turned around... He caught her and locked her in his arms... "Have you been bad mouthing me sweetheart...?" he asked gritting his teeth... She trembled in his hold...and said nothing and looked into his eyes... He came down and reinforced the fear in her head... "You know ...be mindful of the fact that you are stuck with me for the rest of the night ...so don't you dare open your mouth again...and if you do... then make sure you say something sensible..."

She could barely stand the pressure of his arms around her... Her eyes filled with tears...but she held them back...He saw them and loosened his grip on her... She immediately gasped... and staggered...He tried to hold her to get her steady...

"Don't touch me...Mr Raizada..." she said fiercely... She was not a part of any of this and had no desire to be there...

He merely shrugged his shoulders and smirked at her... "Suit your self..." he said and turned getting distracted by the announcement. In that fleeting second she took her chance and slipped out of his sight again...

"Ladies and gentlemen...Good evening and welcome... We are ready for the auction tonight...kindly take a number... and we will be starting with this beautiful set of vases from the royal family of Travancore..."

He looked around and could not find her...

The bidding went on for a few different things...

The auctioneer announced..."The final and last item of the night...ladies and gentlemen... I am sure this is a head turner... especially for the ladies in the house..."

She had taken her chance and made it for the doorway... the security caught her... "Miss please be inside..." they told her...

"I can go wherever I want ..." she argued...

"Miss we have instructions, we are not allowed to let you go out..." they told her.

She felt like crying... "I am not afraid of you... I am going to leave..." she stepped out...

"Miss... please... we are requesting you not to do this... we will have to force you back inside..." one of them said to her...

She stepped back looking their faces... he had her imprisoned inside the hall full of strangers... she walked back... saw the waiter with the champagne ... she took one glass and gulped it down and then another... she felt dizzy... but she went to the bar and found a bar stool... She saw the numbers and the detail sheet... She filled it and picked one ...

The bidding was going on... "Do I hear a hundred fifty...?" asked the auctioneer...

She had missed most of it and had no idea what was going on... but she watched people put up the numbers...

"A hundred seventy five..." a woman's voice said from across the room...

"We have a hundred seventy five..." said the auctioneer... "Have a look at the gorgeous set strung together...gentlemen I am sure you will not find something as grand as this to present to your beloved..."

"Two hundred on right..." said the auctioneer...

Khushi observed what was happening and thought she learnt the game, excited, she put her number up ... and nodded.

"The bid is for three hundred..." said the auctioneer ... "a new bidder joining the bid war from the bar..."

She thought a hundred and seventy five was actually a good bargain... she could not get such a thing at the johri bazaar for less than a thousand.

The bidding war started...

It went back and forth... until the price reached five hundred... Khushi was enjoying the whole thing by now...

The auctioneer started counting down... "For five hundred..." do I hear any bids , this is the last moment... "Five hundred ladies and gentlemen... I am sure... this is worth more..." said the auctioneer.. "One..."

Khushi put her hand up... "Well ladies and gentlemen... the game is on... the beautiful necklace is going for six hundred..." said the auctioneer...

He was still looking for her and then walked to the bar...to get a drink... He saw her as he was making his way, she was perched on the high bar stool... looking absolutely ravishing... giggling at the bidding war... He saw her cheeks flushed and eyes dilated... as he went up to her... he saw the half empty bottle of champagne... she signaled the bar tender to take it away... she looked at him pouting in her annoyance...

He looked at her full lips... to a moment and then said curtly..."I have been looking for you."

"I do not wish to be found ... not by you...Why don't you leave me alone?" she retorted back angry that he had taken the bottle away..

"What are you doing here?" he asked

"Cant you see...bid..bid..bidding.." she slurred her words and stepped down from her bar stool facing him..

"I can see that and I can also see you have been drinking..." he said...

"So...Mr...Mr...Raizada..." she stuttered..

In back ground...

The exquisite necklace is now sold to number 368...for six hundred thousand... ladies and gentlemen... the highest bid for the night..." the auctioneer steeped down and started walking the light followed and the audience craned their necks to see who was it.

She looked stunned and slumped back against him hearing the number... she gasped and he felt her wilting against his weight... He took the card from her and hands. He held her from behind supporting her, it looked as if they were together in the bidding war... and he acknowledged as the lights fell on them... and whispered into her ears... "You have done enough for the night... any thoughts about how you are going to pay for it?" he whispered viciously... She tried wriggling out of his stronghold... "Stay and smile..." he commanded and straightened her body against his own...She smiled...fearful of the consequences of her drunken stupor...

"Beautiful ..." said the auctioneer as he stepped next to them.

"And this piece is obviously for thelovely lady here...Mr Raizada...if you would..." said the auctioneer...

He moved her hair...brushing her neck deliberately with his fingers...and whispered under his breath gritting his teeth making it evidently clear to her that he was furious..."You are quite in the limelight now..." He then took the pearl necklace slipped it around her neck and then gave a half smile...kissing her on the cheek...She stood there feeling the cool white pearls against her warm skin shocked as he proceeded with his threats now sinking into her...

The audience around them gasped at the beauty of the pearls sitting around her delicate neck... and as they saw him and her, together, holding on...

Part 6

She stood there smiling like he had asked her to...and her thoughts were incoherent...

Time to time she slumped against him... he held on to her...

"Mr Raizada, would you want the money to go to the foundation directly...?" asked the auctioneer..

"Yes, just make sure that it is spent on the young kids as well as the older kids." He looked down to see if she was alright... She looked dazed... probably needed some fresh air...

He turned her around... "You okay?" he asked her looking at her...

She looked at him wide eyed...and she shook her head... "No..."

"Do you want to leave?" he asked... She nodded in response...

He took a deep breath looking at the pearls around her neck... he had never seen something that delicate before...the way they complimented each other made him breathless... he started to usher her out... "Mr Raizada...You changed your mind?" asked the auctioneer..

"Well, sometimes you need to see it to believe it... I never treasured an heirloom before until I saw the right place to keep it.... I suppose..." he looked at her and smiled. The auctioneer acknowledged him smiling. He left with her. A hundred pair of eyes followed and heads turned still gaping at them...

She went out elegant and glowing in the radiance of the flawless albumen colour.

The high sheen of the pearls mesmerized him...he felt settling inside... a lot calmer in a very long time ...as he kept his eyes on it he felt a sense of purity and serenity emanating from her body... He pulled her closer as he walked...

He picked her up effortlessly settled her in the passenger seat of his convertible... and in a moment he was out of there...

She sat there glum...

He looked at her and figured that she was feeling sick... to get her mind off the sickness he slowed down and retracted the top to let her feel the fresh air... As the top moved she focused her eyes on the moving top and felt the wind in her hair...She yelped in excitement and gave him one of her childish smiles...He smiled back at her... feeling relieved that she was better...

"Where do you want to go?" he asked...

"Ho...me... and then she remembered she had no home really to go to anymore... she felt like crying but she stopped looking at him...

He did not get it...not this time.

She fiddled with his dashboard... turned on the FM accidently... it started tuning 70's music... "Main to beghar hoon...apne ghar le chalo ... ghar mein ho mushkil to daftar le chalo...Hotel nahin to picture le chalo..." He looked at her ... "Unbelieveable..." he murmured...as he watched her ...lip singing and moving in the rhythm of the song "... lalala lalalla.....picture mein badnami ho to baitho motor car mein...sair karenge sadko mein jaise do premi pyar mein..." She said while circling her arms around him...looking at him fluttering her doe eyes... He slowed down... distracted...and then hearing the next verse... he laughed...She quickly turned it off embarassed... and slumped back into the seat... he looked at her...drove smiling...

As he was driving ... something went amiss ... He wanted to spend more time with her but he realized he was extremely attracted to her... He considered for a moment but then decided to drop it altogether...

"Where do you live?" he asked...

"Just here around the next traffic light." she said...

He slowed down and... she pointed to the apartment buildings... he stopped... She stepped out...he wanted to say something but she walked ahead already...

He shook his head... and reversed and left...

On his way he thought about her... It did not take him long... he swung around...and made his way back... he screeched next to her... in anger.

"Get in..." he said...

"I am okay... this is where I live... why don't you leave?" she shouted at him

"Khushi... do you want me to come and get you or you are just going to make this hard for both of us..." he said

"It is not hard for you Mr Raizada, why don't you go home and have a good night's rest..." she shouted back at him

"What are you going to do ... stand here on the street for the rest of the night..." he said

"Yes... why should you care? I am sure I will manage... look at me..." she accused him vehemently...

"So you think there is no difference..." he said.

"What makes you think there is a difference Mr Raizada... just because you think you are different does not make you any different...and don't think that you get away with this because of your status..." she said fighting back..

"Well, if there is no difference then why the hell am I thinking so much..." having said that he got out banged his door...pulled her into his arms crushing her against him... and forcing her to face him. He was so ready to kiss her... then and there...

She whimpered in his stronghold...

He slowly surveyed her face with his eyes...

She started crying...trying to resist harder...he had made any movement impossible for her... As he looked on... the pearls glistened in the moon light... he blinked and loosening his grip on her... picked her up and put her in his car...

He made no arguments and drove ... calling his security... "Yes... get the keys... I should get there in 20 minutes..."

She did not speak a word... she wondered if she could just die and not be humiliated any further...wary of what was coming...the look in his face said it all.

When he reached his security was waiting at the main door... He got out... got the keys and then came back pulled her out of her seat...dragging her along with him... She cried...

He snapped at her "Shut up...I paid for it..." pulled her along and took her to the elevator... once inside she started to hit him... crying bitterly...

He unlocked the door dragging her unwilling body, he pushed her into the bed.... She fell on her side...the hair all over the bed... she cried...seeing his daunting figure towering over her...

He walked towards the bed... she curled up... trying to protect herself...

He leaned his body over her... looked into her eyes... "You need a key to get in or out... if you have to bluff me then think of better ways...to do that..." he dropped the keys in front of her and straightened up...

Without any more words... he left her... closing the door behind.

She cried herself to sleep.

Part 7

He had never felt so indecisive in his whole life...

He reflected on how things had played out and realized for the first time he doubted himself, questioned himself... just because she did it. It mattered to him she had meant it when she had judged him at first glance... he was not claiming to be better... but he could not let go of the fact that he had given her the benefit of doubt... but she had out rightly made it clear to him what she thought of him... He tried blocking the thoughts in his head and be indifferent to it as he did before...He did it but in the next hour it all came back... her accusatory look flashed inside his head and it reminded him again what she thought of him.

As the hours slipped by and he spent another sleepless night... he was shocked even to see himself that he had acted in that way... He could n't have cared less when he saw her... or for the likes of her kind...and yet for some unknown reason he very much cared about every damn little thing...about her.

He was restless as usual, he paced in his massive house... and then he felt it his fear of being alone gripping him from his inside... it had taken him years to get over it and she brought it back overnight... He cursed... and dropped his body down on the poolside chair... He started to fall back on all his defense mechanisms and slowly but surely his anger came back... His head throbbed... He went ahead and looked at the prints for the next structure and immersed himself in it... without much effort he got engrossed, he worked through the night...as soon as it was day light she showered and cleaned ... ready to leave ...

He had no intention of being pestered by his sister that morning... as he was reminded of the night before...he was sneaking out when she called... "At least have your breakfast... work can wait 15 minutes ... He sighed and turn around.

He went to the table took his usual things and ate silently looking through his Economic Times...

"Chhote once in while you should read other news papers ... now look at this one... she handed him over the morning daily... He kept looking at his sister's face...

"Chhote don't look at me... look at the paper...?" she said

He saw himself against her body... her face half hidden due to her voluminous curls that had felt so silky when he had touched them...

"Now are you going to sit here and stare at the paper... did you forget about your morning rush?" said Anjali teasing him...

"No not at all...I was just leaving..." he said...and waited for a second ... he looked at her inquisitively but she only displayed her lack of interest ...

It was so unlike her.. the last few months he had been driven to wall by Anjali...

She bombarded him with information first and then she rattled her questions. It went on so frequently that he had no idea which were the girls she had already asked him about and which were ones who he was hearing about for the first time... Initially, he had ignored and thought not much of it and managed to keep the answer open ended ... with relative uncertainty... It had taken her a while but she had eventually figured it out.

After that she had come up with her master plan ... starting with tracking his work schedule and one by one her recommendations started infiltrating his office space ... it had started with lunch and ended up in his business meetings inside and outside his office. He was upset. It made him absolutely insane that she would do such ridiculous things but he never said anything to her because he loved her beyond their personal differences... They had moved in different directions...

No matter how close, how much they cared for each other, they were never able to come to share a part of themselves. At least, he never opened up to her. As he grew up he drifted apart in many ways... He diverted away and used up negative energy to be constructive and creative beginning modestly with a few projects turning it into a large-scale empire in a few years; controlling it single-handed; spending his days followed by nights, neck deep in work , becoming more of an introvert...

The downside, he was fanatically practical; nothing else mattered except what he considered needed to get done and it had to be done at any cost... He preferred reinvesting on projects disbanded, discarded or abandoned...the challenges being greater there. These were his pet projects it was rare to make profits but he usually placed himself be at no loss or no gain...All this added with his ongoing fresh projects...filling every hour in his life...The fast pace of his work had in years made him obsessively organized, short tempered with no tolerance for idleness or inefficiency... He fired people left, right and centre... But those who stayed... made their fortune along with him...

He reached his office, disoriented and distracted with no interest to look into his project... Instead he sat on his chair debating the inappropriateness of visiting her that morning... He scanned through the digital copies of contract papers ... He found her contact number for residence... He quickly got into action.

That same morning

She woke up but stayed in her bed...looking at the ceiling...the white of the ceiling and walls was no less than prison like... than her feeling inside...it suffocated her the starkness. She cried a bit more thinking of the night before ...

As the room filled with sunlight, she became more and more agitated sitting there... she looked around the apartment and it irritated her more... as she looked around... her head filled with colours and ideas...

She did not know how long she was sitting there in the counter top sipping the cold tea...

When she heard the door bells she was surprised...

She looked through the peep hole and saw the security tag...

"Madam morning..." said the security personnel and without any more words placed her two bags...

"Where did you get these from?" she asked him.

"Madam, I was only instructed to bring them here ..." he said apologetically.

"Oh... okay...thank you." she said

Once he left, she dragged the two bags inside... She took out her favourite skinny jeans and then wore a flowy white embroidered tunic under a light wash chambray shirt and a pair of slip on and accessorized with a pair of black sunglasses, a white tote she put her list in her bag and set out locking the house...

The security watched her leave... acknowledged and smiled. She smiled and walked out. She was about to call for a taxi, when the car came and the driver opened the door for her...

She smiled...at the driver and without further delay she gave him directions.

She spent the day buying things, budgeting within the few thousands left in her account.

When she came up, she found the house as she left it, except her kitchen, the cold food was gone and fresh fruits and vegetables had taken its place. She even found ice cream in the freezer... she took a deep breath and saw the time... she tossed a few things to eat while she showered and changed.

She ate alone and then concentrated on the things she bought, laying out her stuff all over the floor...

At night she took the time to take a few things out from her bags. The huge wall cupboards filled partly with his stuff...reminded her ... his words rand in her head... she could n't get it out of her head what he thought of her...

She shut the cupboard door forcefully in anger and chose the corner most space farthest away...

It became a routine... She woke up, she sipped her tea and saw the previous days work...and then she continued working on the interiors... Slowly it was coming to a completion...

That weekend she was putting up the decor... when she heard the knock... she instantly knew it was him... Instead of opening the door she froze where she was sitting... After five minutes... he knocked again and called her... She did not move... In fifteen minutes... she heard other voices...and then she heard the door click... She shrunk back into the couch...

He barged in as soon as the door opened his mouth to shout her name... when his eyes fell on her. As he moved towards her, the security closed the door behind him. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath trying to settle his anger down...

She expected him to shout... she shut her eyes... and waited for it.

She did not hear but soon felt being lifted up...

"You scared me..." he said, trying to keep the urgency out of his voice. He scooped her in his arms and took her out to the terrace and perched her on the parapet wall...

"Why have n't you been out of here at all the whole of last week?" he asked her as he watched a few loose strands fly across her face...

"So you are keeping a track of what I do and what I don't..." she said looking at him instead of replying to his question.

"Khushi... I asked you a simple question, why can't you just answer that..." he said

"No you tell me... have n't you assigned a driver so that you know exactly where I go and who I see... Don't think that I don't see things...I know ... what..." she said to him

"You know what Khushi...?" he said to her.

There was a long silence, followed by a few shuddering sobs.

Finally, voice strained, struggling to remain steady himself and keep his hands off her, he backed away from her , his body spry as it once was, felt limp against the wall. He had been feeling the dull ache sitting and settling inside him the past few days. He felt too uneasy to be around her... he thought of leaving her... Just when he turned he heard her voice...

"And I am supposed to get down from here on my own Mr Raizada ?" she said sniffing between her words...

He saw her still perched on the top of the wall ... he went back to her... this time he held her around her delicate waist...and then slowly lifting her and helped her slide down... making her land on his toes.

"Can't we just drop this, fight for another night... look I am tired and starving ...and I thought of taking you out... do you want to come?"

She looked at him... questioningly ...

"Wear whatever the hell you want and pick a place of your choice..."he said leaning forward as if to kiss and then backing away...she stepped away and went into the master bedroom to change... he went inside and looked at the changes...

The walls were no longer stark white... the egg shell cream gave it a warmer appearance. He noticed all the subtle details and then sat down waiting...

The wave of the vibrant turquoise blue crochet maxi dress accentuated her softness. He looked at unabashed. The boat neck sat perfectly showing off her delicate bones and the sleeves cut perfectly around her rounded shoulders. She accessorized it with bangles and her favourite long necklaces...came out with her strappy sandals... the messy curls flowed down her back...

He felt feral desire watching her strut across the room.

They made their way down and he kept looking at her giving her appreciative glances every now and then... His stares brought some colour to her cheeks and she shifted in discomfort.

Part 8

Almost a week had passed without a word from her...

Every night that week he sat in his study and stretched and thought of her often until dawn. The way he had come to meet her, in all other probable circumstances, they would have never met , not in this lifetime... Their lives had entwined in the strangest and most unlikely crossroad. He was still resentful that she had not even taken a second look at him but that did not stop him from thinking about her.

Sighing, he looked at the prints of his project and saw how much work was piling up slowly in his desk... he rubbed the sleep of his eyes and tried concentrating. These days he was unable to work long hours, he closed his laptop, leaned back against the chair...

He felt horrible for taking advantage of her like that. He hadn't intended for things to go this wrong when he had planned it, but now she was rendered homeless and terribly hurt the way he had threatened her over and over again. He longed to hear her voice even if she reproached him for his actions ... but a part of him also longed to listen to her secrets , of what she felt inside ... Instead he had made it evident with his words that he was just using her and then left her on the bed without so much as another word. He kicked himself mentally for it.

To him she was irresistible. He was drawn not only to her physical attributes of beauty but what he saw behind the quiet, solemn demeanor ... he felt the blazing divinity inside her that emanated power beyond his imagination. It was something he had never imagined to exist, he had never felt anyone could have such an affect on him... but she did. In less than a day his world was falling apart. He was slowly losing himself in his thoughts surrounding her...

He worried about her...He knew in his heart that he should have told her about the circumstances surrounding all the oddness in his behaviour leading to her being dragged into this mess. However, he had no courage to look into her eyes and tell her about his rashness and insensitivity.

In his defense he could argue that his survival was predicated on a life that had no emotional involvement of any kind with anyone. He had deliberately distanced himself and he kept it that way. It had taken him years to come to terms with who he was...but now the comfort he had in that knowledge was rubbing off. His illusion shattering made him feel vulnerable. He swallowed hard wondering if he would ever be able to tell anything to such an innocent face.

Even with his fears, he had been unable to stop himself that night ... He left his office and absentmindedly drove to see her... When she had not come to the door, he had lost his mind...his breathing had ceased and in that moment he was ready to bring down the door himself when the security had come with the master key to let him in. Seeing her shrinking into the couch, he had felt an immense relief, he had wanted to kiss her lips but looking at her scared figure he had stopped himself and picked her up just to be rest assured that she was safe. She had come to mean something to him and he could do anything to keep the status quo...

As he drove in the direction she told him to, he stole glances at her small frame wrapped in the vibrant blue... Every time she caught his eyes on her, she looked away...in embarrassment.

They had a quiet dinner at a non-descript place and post dinner she went ahead of him and walked near the water... He did not follow.

He simply stared ahead waiting for her to come back. They were both unusually quiet...

She came back in sometime...

Something was wrong. He felt it. "What is it?" he asked looking at her child like face but she was a woman all on her own..

She started to say something but then her voice broke down...

"Lets just get you home..." he said and walked back with her to his car.

Through out the way he watched her.

He felt his heart aching listening to the hopeless quiet weeping. He wanted to reach out, comfort her but she would not let him he knew..When he reached her place

He did what he knew best. "Khushi..." he said in his stern and steely voice. "Stop."

Unwilling and unable to rally against him, Khushi allowed him to lead her.

Her breathing was ragged and uneven, but she slowly gained control.

Once inside he made her sit next to him on the soft couch... He brushed her dark long hair...took the ones away from her face and then he wrapped his arms bringing her up close so that she was pressed against his side.

She resisted him for sometime but he was so much bigger than her that it was absolutely

ridiculous to try, and also there was the fact was she was upset and lonely and wanted to be comforted.

She buried her head against his side.

"Tell me what's wrong?"

She glanced up at his face shook her head. "It was nothing. I'm fine now."

"Fine, but not yourself." he said

"I don't even know what myself is anymore Mr Raizada," she said

He gently pulled away from her, looking down at her. Her face was soft, angular, her features were smaller, finer. He picked up her long-fingered hands and looked into her eyes .

"You are Khushi, as plain and simple, as I have come to know you..." he said firmly, and she looked away.

She felt him looking into her in that disconcerting way...

He continued... "From the moment I saw you I felt that there was something unusual about you, something was wrong. But I am afraid I never paid attention . . ." he paused, looking uncomfortable himself.

She wanted to tell him it was okay, he didn't need to make himself uncomfortable,

But he pressed on. "I fear that the way I have behaved with you is unforgivable .... and I had no right to hurt you in this way... He swallowed hard...

He sat beside her and then started to move closer to her, reaching for the single button on her back releasing it and feeling the thin strap on her back...Accidentally he slipped one sleeve of her shoulder and brushed his hands over it.

She yanked it back and pushed his hand away like he was a spitting, hissing viper.

She lowered her head and felt a wave of tears overtake her.

She looked up shamefully, brushing her tears. She started to make her escape, mumbling something about not feeling well, but he caught her arm as she stood up.

Automatically, she swelled in anger, covering her face with her hands and sobbed more wretchedly.

"Leave me alone," she cried. "Please, just let me go."

He let go of her hand and closed his fingers into a fist.

She moved a few steps away from him.. she stood with her back to him as if indecisive.

He saw her back, the slender neck elongated with her hair tied in an untidy knot, her head cocked slightly

He stood up and went upto her slender, graceful body and closed his finger over hers locking them into his own...

His mouth ran dry, unable to really articulate anything; he looked at her and quietly said,

"I wanted to talk to you about what I did...he said, concern evident in his voice. Silence followed...nothing else came out except ..."I am sorry... Khushi."

Part 9

The night of the auction, he had in his impulsiveness just seen her as the means to an end but with every step closer he had felt differently about her...It was the day after when he had received confirmation on the rest of the transfer of the amount. He had immediately sent his chauffeur to keep track of Khushi's whereabouts. Reportedly some woman had come and claimed the amount identifying as Khushi Kumari Gupta; Aman had informed him. To his surprise according to his security following her and his driver... they had not seen her go anywhere except to the stores where she bought the materials and returned home.

Ever since that day he desperately wanted to see her, and yet he could not bring himself to face her. Now finally when he did the words would n't come out of his mouth... he could not explain his irrationality in words, it did not make any sense anymore... instead he had just about gathered enough courage to let her know that he was sorry.

It was not until he felt the sting that he realized that she had hit him hard on his face. "You wait 7 days... to say you are sorry...Mr Raizada." she said fiercely.

He kept quiet...

"Do you know how it even feels to be me right now... why would you even think of it now...being apologetic.." she shouted and continued

"I tried to explain, I begged you let me go... I did everything I could to convince you that there was some confusion... and you did not listen to one word I said and then you parade me in front of thousand cameras half naked..." she swallowed her painful memory of being forced into the clothes he had chosen, that barely covered her body...

"You left no stone unturned Mr Raizada to humiliate me and then as if that was not enough you treat me as if you own me... threatening me consistently..." she said looking at him...

"Do you even realise I have an opinion? You dragged me here, never bothering to find out even once what I thought of it...? You pay for everything, you make everyone run around me your chaffeaur, your housemaid, your security, your staff... they all know I am here just like any mistress would be...Mr Raizada... I just cannot thank you enough for elevating my status considerably. You think with all your doings, any one would think any better of me than what you thought of me the first night we met?" she said in one breath.

All this while he had listened and slowly backed away from her... By the time she finished, he cringed as his throat swelled in pain from the emotions that he suppressed inside him...

He laid his throbbing head down in his palms feeling defeated... his eyes shut avoiding looking at her to hide his apparent pain...

It was long before he slowly raised his head with his blank face... taking a few deep breaths he finally said... "I didn't think-I mean, it wasn't . . ." he trailed off, unable to take his eyes off her face...

She was still looking at him with her accusation; he was far away from explaining himself or his actions. He looked at her thoughtfully.

Slowly, his mouth turned into a hard line... "I won't lie to you Khushi, I had a hard time liking you because you so openly hated me and made it evident that you were repulsed by me...so I did what I did..."

"Right... Mr Raizada...I am so glad to know that you are sensitive when it comes to your ownself..." she sneered at him

"Will you let me finish Khushi? Unless you have just started this to jeer at me, go ahead... finish it." he said offhand.

"Oh please go on..." she said animatedly folding her hands across her chest in her defense.

"All I can say is that I am not sure if you are aware but despite my annoyance I am drawn to you... in a strange way and it may sound weird but I feel like we... we ...were meant to meet... no matter what the circumstances..." he paused... as he watched her mouth open in surprise...mixed with absolute shock.

"I wanted to see you, everyday ... since ...we ...met and just so you know none of what I did was implied in anyway to demean you ... if you feel this way about everything that I have done so far then I have nothing further to say to you.... except that you do not know anything about me and so easily you have passed your judgment based on one night..." he stopped as he felt himself hurting inside... He got up to leave... he could not stay there any longer.

He walked towards the door...

"I am leaving tomorrow..." she said softly.

He heard her but he did not turn back... "Your self imposed imprisonment is over I suppose, now that you have my apology you wish to leave..." he said and then turned back facing her...

"No matter where you go or what you do Khushi, it will not change the fact that as much I wished to see you ... Somewhere in your denial you have wished the same... you wished to see me or else you would n't be here at all tonight..." That said he left.

She felt her hands trembling, her lips quivering and her throat choking. As soon as he left, she ran inside and flung herself across the bed crying...

It was next day afternoon, when she heard her door bell. She dragged herself out of bed smoothened her disheveled hair... and opened the door.

"Ms Gupta, I am supposed to arrange for your travel, if you can give me the details." She gestured him to wait. She went inside, locked the door of the room... and stood against it, she felt like crying for no apparent reason. She dried her face and came out finally ...

"Actually, I will manage." She said. "Thank you for coming by."

"Ms Gupta, I have been asked to do this. Just to let you know off the record, Mr Raizada won't be pleased to hear that you have gone through the discomfort of arranging for your own travel. This is my job... so if you may please..." he pleaded her.

She sighed...

"Just a week's trip to Lucknow and back, would suffice." She said reluctantly.

"Right, I will give you the details in within the hour," he got up and left.

She went ahead and packed her bag.

As promised her tickets were delivered within the hour... it was for the early morning flight the next day.

She spent the rest of the day making calls. Finally, she found a temporary job in a small company that she could join when she came back. That night... she felt restless and did not sleep a wink. She got ready and came down... she saw the convertible parked and she looked at it expectantly, the chauffeur came out and drove her to the airport.

He had not only sent his car, he had given instructions to all his drivers take all cars for servicing ... then he barricaded himself with meetings one after the other so that he made no attempt to see her and let her go...
