Happy birthday Kiddo_Star! (By Priyanjali) (Thanked: 10 times)

“No, no, no, no,” said a girl, “This cannot be happening!”

She took in her surroundings in panic. Tall trees everywhere. Though it was 2 PM on a bright, sunny day; the sun rays could hardly reach the ground.

“Hello!” she yelled. “Hello! Is anyone there? Hello!”

Her cries were not responded.

“Perfect,” she said sarcastically, “I left my phone back at the campsite.”

She rummaged in her backpack and found nothing useful that would help her to find the way back, though there were some essential items like; protein bars, a bottle of water, matchbox, first-aid kit, and pepper spray.

“Everyone leaves in 2 hours and I am lost in this deep jungle! What do I do?” she sighed.

“Hello! Help me! Hello!”

That was also unhelpful. She looked around and decided to go with her instincts.

Half-an-hour had passed, and there was no sign of humans. Lost in the jungle where wild animals probably roamed freely, she couldn’t help admiring her courage. But that feeling soon died when a wave of terror swept through her. What if she was going in the total opposite, wrong way?

Distressed, she dropped to the ground and settled down on a comfortable spot.

“This is the best birthday ever! Birthday baby got lost and probably would be attacked by an animal. Nice.”

She took out a protein bar, water bottle and a book; and started reading while eating the bar.

“After finishing this chapter I will continue my adventure,” she said as if she were home and that her mother was calling for dinner.

“Damn it, no!!!!” came an echo from nearby.

She dropped the book, “There’s someone here!”

Quickly gathering her items she ran towards the sound.

Her heart jumped in relief, it was indeed a human. She was about to call that person but stopped when she noticed that it was a man, his face wrapped in cloth, only eyes were visible. Naturally, she found him dangerous and tried to move away stealthily but luck was not on her side.

He chose the exact moment to look right at her and got momentarily startled on seeing a girl who seemed to be frozen on the spot.

Recoiling quickly, “Thank God! I found a person and glad I’m not alone,” he moved near her, “I am…”

“No! Don’t come any closer!” she yelled and grabbed her pepper spray. “I swear on Barun Sobti, I will use this and my karate on you!”

“Barun Sobti?” surprise was evident from his tone. “Look, I mean no harm, girl. Please relax! I am lost in this forest. Just trying to find my way back. That’s it.”

“Then why are you wearing that scarf?” she asked.

“I am allergic to cottonwood and we are surrounded by a lot of it,” he said. “Trust me, I have no intention to kidnap you or something. We will lose the light soon, so we got to move fast."

She still looked at him suspiciously.

"Please, trust me. I will take you to my place and there are women too,” he assured her.

This sounded crazy. She stumbled into a dangerous-looking man in the middle of the jungle who offered to help her immediately and she found herself accepting his offer. She had gone mental but was very well aware that she had no other choice.

“Fine,” she said, reaching him, “But remember, I can very well defend my self.”

“No doubt in that,” he chuckled. “Really you don’t need to worry much. My place is nearby, just need to find which way to go.”

She frowned, “You sound very familiar.”

“Yes, but it’s really hard to tell with all those layers of cloth shielding your mouth.”

“Maybe it’s familiar because it’s muffled,” he suggested an option.

She shrugged.

“Why are you helping me?”

“Because you are a kid,” he answered.

“What? No! I am a med student who came here to a medical camp,” she snapped, offended.

“Then how are you lost?”

“There is a gang who sees me as if I was their enemy and must have thought it would be fun to lead me into deep jungle saying that my professor required me. I was a fool to fall for it!”

“Don’t worry,” he said, looking around seeing his phone, “we’ll contact your faculty.”

“Thank you,” she smiled.

He beckoned her, “Follow me, this way!”

They started walking in silence.

“How are you stuck here?” she asked.

“There was this super cute bird, I chased it wanting to take it’s snap and have forgotten for an instance where I was. Then you found me.”

They chatted about random topics for about quarter-of-an-hour.

“‘I swear on Barun Sobti’ What was that?” he asked, recalling her weird threat.

“Oh, It’s just…” she blushed, “I am a huge fan of him.”

“It’s someone’s lucky day,” he muttered excitedly.

“Right! Away from the family, exhausted and lost on my birthday,” she mumbled sadly. “I’d rather have spent this day with my family and books.”

“Cheer up, we’re almost there!”

Soon enough, they’d reached a huge cottage. Many people were running here and there, huge cameras everywhere, greenscreen and lighting had been set up as if for a video shoot.

He moved forward removing his scarf, “Finally! I’m starving.”

She was astounded seeing the place she had stepped into. There was a shooting going on and she concluded excitedly this the man who helped her must be a part of this crew.

“Oh God! This is amazing! Why didn’t you tell me before?” she asked.

“I thought I’d give you a sweet surprise,” he said, turning to face her.

She gasped loudly.

“What is your name?” he asked.

“Sh…Shreya,” mumbled Shreya, eyes wide and hands clasped to her mouth.

“Well, happy birthday, Shreya,” wished Barun Sobti.

Alright, alright, I get it! Please don’t faint reading the worst awful birthday present ever. I thought your birthday was on 17th December and realized I was mistaken ( thanks to @kattyarshi ) and wrote this 'present' in one hour because you are really special.

You were always there for anyone who was down, no matter how much distressed you were. I am lucky to have a selfless, sweet and vivacious friend, such as you, in my life. I wish you have a wonderful life ahead. Happy birthday!
